National Senior Games Association
In this Facebook post on May 13, the team at NSGA addressed a question posed by many athletes (I’ve received a few inquires, too).
“Question: Do medalists and/or participants from the 2023 National Senior Games (in Pittsburgh, PA) qualify for the 2025 National Senior Games (in Des Moines, IA)?”
“Answer: No. All athletes must qualify at a state senior games this year.”
I’ll add this: if your sport requires qualification. Most sports do, but there are a hand full that welcome all-comers.
Diva-friendly Qualifying Sports
- Cycling — the top 4 finishers in each age group qualify
- Race walk — the top 4 finishers in each age group qualify
- Triathlon — individual athletes who finish qualify
- 5K / 10K Road Race — all finishers qualify
- I’m adding this for those of us who love fast walking 5Ks and 10Ks
Diva-friendly Open Sports
These are what I call the “Sign Up and Show Up” sports and events. The only criteria: You must be age 50 or better next year.
- Cycling — those who ride recumbent bikes (two-wheels) or trikes (three-wheeled) may race in the 5K and/or 10K time trials
- Note: They are not allowed in the road races
- Power Walk — continues to be an open sport
- Triathlon Relay — 2- and 3-member teams (men’s, women’s & mixed)
- NEW — Powerlifting, comprised of Squat, Bench Press, and Deadlift
- NEW — 1-Mile Road Race, takes place the day between the 5K and 10K Road Races
- This is for the Divas who love going all-out for short distances
More Must-Know Details
- The 2025 NSG Rule Book, posted in early May, contains the “…qualifying procedures and rules of competition…based upon those set forth by the recognized national governing body for each sport.”
- Here’s why I highly recommend you read it:
- The Rule Book contains information on how you can qualify for your sport if your state games doesn’t offer it this year
- For example, your state senior games doesn’t offer triathlon, and you’re not able to travel to another state senior games that does. The rule book explains how you can submit your results from another non-senior games organizer.
- Here’s why I highly recommend you read it:
- The NSGA hotel booking service is expected to launch by the end of summer. This tool is designed to help athletes find lodging suitable to their budget, time tables, and tastes.
- As of this posting, the venues for the competitions have not been announced. Hopefully, that information will be forthcoming so we can start making plans!
That’s a Wrap for this Episode!
