The mystery is over! I’ve been waiting for weeks (even months!) for the announcement that FINALLY came today. I’m so ready to get started on my walking and cycling training in an effort to qualify for the 2025 National Senior Games.
Via email, the National Senior Games Association announced Des Moines, IA as the host city for its 2025 National Senior Games. Word came two days before the official start of its 2023 competition. However, event dates were not mentioned. I expect those dates and more information will be coming in the weeks and months ahead.
NSGA Press Release
“Dear Athletes,
NSGA is excited to report that Des Moines, Iowa has been selected to host the 2025 National Senior Games!
“Des Moines surprised us in many ways,” NSGA CEO Sue Hlavacek noted. “The sport and event venues are top notch and the city is friendly and easy to navigate. We also like that we will have our next Games in the middle of the country. We look forward to our partnership with CATCH Des Moines.”
Hlavacek noted that she and the NSGA Board of Directors were impressed with the city’s bid presentation, which answered many questions about their suitability to host the event. Sport venues have been identified and there are ample hotels close to events.
“Des Moines offers all the amenities and facilities without the long lines, traffic and big price tag,” said Greg Edwards, President and CEO of CATCH Des Moines. “We’re a city that is safe, clean and walkable, and we’re excited to host the National Senior Games in 2025.”
Watch for more details in coming months.”
Visitor Information Ahead of 2025 National Senior Games
The NSGA included a link to a CATCH Des Moines video on YouTube showcasing the city’s sports focus. CATCH Des Moines is the banner that the Greater Des Moines Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Des Moines Area Sports & Tourism Commission work under to market the region as a visitor destination. CATCH Des Moines‘ website includes hotel, dining, activities, and other information.
I now have a new goal. Goals are good. Let’s get working to achieve them!
