Plenty of questions pop up when we Divas first start thinking about improving our fitness…especially when those thoughts are about a new sport like running, bicycling, or triathlon. Too often, our emotions join that party, and derail us from even trying. Darn our fear, self-consciousness, and self-doubt!
I believe one of the best ways to overcome those pesky thoughts (and get us out of our own way) is by volunteering at a race or event.
Five Ways Volunteering at Races Improves Our Fitness:
- Role Models: See other women like you who are also overweight, out of shape, or of a similar age.
- All Abilities Welcome: See people with seemingly physical “disabilities” using wheelchairs, handcycles, recumbent bicycles, or “running blades” prostheses to participate or vie for race honors.
- Nothing to Fear: You’ll discover that the sport isn’t as scary as you thought it would be. If they can do it so can you.
- Inspiration: You’ll get inspired to give that sport a try. If they can do it so can you – one step at a time!
- Making a Difference: Feel great knowing you’re helping others enjoy their race experience because without volunteers these races wouldn’t happen!
Now I’m off to help out at a triathlon because it’s my way of giving back to a sport I thoroughly enjoy!
See you out there!
