Idaho Senior Games Offers Mountain Bike Racing

Ready to have some fun with mountain bike racing this summer? Registration is open for the Idaho Senior Games‘ two mountain bike racing events for cyclists of all levels of ability and experience.

The cross country and hill climb events will take place Sunday, August 14 at the Eagle Cycle Park. Race distances are based on the rider’s skill level and by age. Skill categories are Expert, Sports, and Beginner — perfect for us Divas wanting to give this a try. Age groups are in five-year segments starting at age 50.

Last year was the inaugural year for mountain bike racing at the Idaho Senior Games. Two women won gold in the cross country and hill climb races in the Sport and Expert skills categories. Imagine yourself as one of the first Beginner riders to enter! Challenge yourself, sign up, and give this a try. Do let me know, however, if you opt to do these mountain bike races in Boise. I’d love to publish your race report!

This course map (a downloadable PDF) will give you an idea of how the race routes are laid out. I’ve put these races on my 2023 event list. I’m focused on qualifying for the 2023 National Senior Games in power walking and race walking.

Boise: More than Just Mountain Bike Racing

Boise is a fun city to explore, too! I rode my bike along the 25-mile urban Greenbelt (just be mindful of walkers, runners, squirrels…yes, squirrels!). Despite a slew of dining options throughout the city, my hubby and I dined repeatedly at Tin Roof Tacos in 2018. We simply loved the variety, flavors and prices. I opted for Whole Foods Market’s salad bar for lunches.
