Vegas Sizzling Seniors track and field group focuses on fitness, fun and participation in senior games. They welcome those age 50 or better and of all fitness and ability levels. The group fosters friendship, fellowship, support, and overall health and fitness. Their annual event is participating in the Nevada Senior Games held each fall in Las Vegas.
In 2015, a track and field team was formed by Martha Watson, a four-time Olympian and Nevada Senior Games track and field coordinator, and Carla Carpenter, a runner, race walker, and USA Track & Field official. They registered the Vegas Sizzling Seniors team with USA Track and Field. Over the years, the group has welcomed road runners, power walkers, triathletes, and others seeking to improve their fitness. Out-of-towners and “snowbirds” are welcome to join in the fun, too!
The group trains together each week but will go on hiatus during the intense summer months.
Members compete in a variety of local events such as the Henderson Senior Games, Mesquite Senior Games and Nevada Senior Games. They will also travel to out-of-state senior games, and many seek to qualify in their sport for the biennial National Senior Games.
