Am I ready for my cycling and race walking races coming up in October? Uh, no. I always feel that way in the weeks and days leading up to events.
My biking and walking training hasn’t gone the way I would like but it never does. It’s not a perfect world.
What I am happy about is my improve eating habits. More home cooking, less eating out. Far less sugary things (yep, lots less mochas and chocolate chip cookies). Lots more beans and green leafy things (I’ll pass on the Swiss chard, thank you). My near-daily smoothie for lunch is my indulgence: organic, unsweetened almond milk, a couple scoops of unflavored and unsweetened protein powder, cocoa powder, a couple tablespoons of peanut or almond butter, and a frozen banana. The banana’s sweetness is enough for my taste buds these days – Yay!
Now that September is here, I can really feel my growing excitement for my upcoming events at the Nevada Senior Games and the Huntsman World Senior Games in St. George, Utah. I think I’m more excited about seeing my race buddies than the actual events! That’s because we seem to focus on the fun and camaraderie more than who-beats-who.
Keep moving!
