The 2016 Huntsman World Senior Games’ race walk and power walk competitions will take place, Oct. 3 – 5, in St. George, Utah. Race Director Norm Frable announced the dates shortly after the conclusion of this year’s events.
The 3000 meter and 1500 meter races are track events, usually held at Snow Canyon High School. Women and men compete separately with the race walk held first.
The 5K races are on a road closed to traffic. Both male and female athletes race together to complete five laps of the one-kilometer course. This year, the event was held on a runway at the former St. George airport.
More race walkers are expected to compete in 2016 in an effort to qualify for the 2017 National Senior Games’ 1500 meter and 5K race walk events in their respective gender and age groups.
An overall championship medal is given to the fastest woman and man in their distance. The top three finishers in each gender’s age groups are awarded gold, silver and bronze medals.
Athletes are welcome to compete in any or all race walking and power walking races.
