Endurance swimmer Diana Nyad became the first person to successfully swim from Cuba to Key West in Florida without the use of a shark cage.
This was her fifth attempt in 35 years to swim the 110-mile Florida Straits. Her time was 52 hours, 54 minutes and 18 seconds.
She was quoted by the New York Times as saying, ““I have three messages. One is we should never, ever give up. Two is you never are too old to chase your dreams.”
The third message was that swimming may appear to be a solitary sport but it’s a team effort to achieve dreams like this.
Did we mention that Ms. Nyad is 64 years of age? She clearly shows the world that hard work, perseverance and support can help dreams come true.
Congratulations, Diana, on an AWESOME achievement and for being an inspiration to the rest of us women who doubt ourselves and our abilities.
Now, dear Diva, what’s your dream? Let’s work on making it happen!
